Thursday 3-10-11

Today the nurses at the hospital played a cruel joke on me.  They got me excited to help Dr. E with a patient to assist him without them being there.  Naturally I was extremely ecstatic for this experience, however nothing could have prepared me for the journey I was about to encounter.  When I walked into the patient's room I was over whelmed with a horrendous stench.  I looked all around for the cause of it and came to realize it was the patient.  It turns out the nurses allowed me to do this one by myself because they themselves did not want to sit through the stench.  They decided since I wanted to be a doctor I would have to get used to patients who are unbearable.  However even Dr. E was gagging while in the room.  He cleverly told the patient he was just having an asthma attack to avoid any rudeness.  The procedure itself was pretty easy, it was a simple consult which consists of discussing a possible surgery and consulting with a patient what the problem is.[D]  It was good knowledge and I guess they were right about dealing with patients who are just unbearable.  It was an excellent experience to see how a professional would handle the situation.[A]  I felt it was too much but Dr. E was so calm besides the coughing and such.[E]
