The College Diet

Thursday 3/3

Today was another more laid back day. I started out by writing up the vitamin A and vitamin C procedures into Word so I could refer to them when performing the same procedure again and limit my variability. One of the grad students is a TA for a 100-level nutrition class and needed some help grading so I helped with that. It was actually really fun! The class is required for nutrition majors, but a lot of seniors take it from other majors because it's pretty easy and fun (it's kind of a blow-off class). Their assignment was to write up a food log for the week as well as record their exercise levels, and calculate their BMI. College students eat some very interesting foods and a lot of times skip meals all together. The most entertaining however, was their recorded alcohol intake. Obviously alcohol is important to record as the calories add up quickly. Still, because they have their BMI's on the front of the sheet we know how old they are. Let's just say there are a lot of 18 year olds having fun on Friday nights at U of I. That is when they're not eating Cup of Noodles, McChickens, Dorritos or Taco Bell.
