Acronyms commonly used in hospitals
DNR- Do Not Resuscitate
BRP- Bathroom priviledges
NPO- Non Per Os which is Latin, and translates to, nothing by mouth...That's it for now, there's more to come!
More exciting news folks...I watched yet another procedure! This time it was an ERCP procedure which is short for Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography...(woo! that's a mouth full). In this procedure an endoscope is used to go down in the bile ducts to find stones, or masses. The patient that underwent the procedure had a case of Jaundice (yellowing of the skin). So the purpose of the procedure was to find the cause of this condition. When the doctor entered the room, the first thing he said was "You're Yellow!"...wow...For the procedure I have observed in the past I watched them from the labs, a room behind a clear glass. But, this time I stayed in the room where I could get a more up-close and personal view. To protect my thyroid and reproductive organs from the radiation of the x-ray, the Team (consisting of a doctor a nurse and two techs) and I wore these funny looking suits made of lead. As one nurse informed me on what was happening and what I was seeing, I found it easy to correlate this information with what I have learned in Anatomy. I love my Anatomy class! <3
