3/14/11

Today was the big day! I had to test my own blood sugar levels. I think I made it worse than it was, building up the suspense. But it really didn't hurt. The needles used were pretty small. After I tested myself, I tested a few of the people working in the pharmacy. One of the people I felt bad about because I had to prick her multiple times before we could get enough blood for a test. But eventually we got enough, and she didn't seem to mind. I guess everyone around here is used to being test subjects for interns.
After that, Erica showed me some papers that she uses to interview patients about medication history. Tomorrow I will be using those papers to interview her, as if she were a patient and I were a pharmacist. It's important when doing these interviews to ask open ended questions. She told me to look over the papers and make sure that I would have questions ready that would prompt her to talk, rather than just ask yes or no questions.
On Wednesday, I can expect an easy day. The pharmacy will be short staffed, so I'm going to be doing some typical work around the clinic. So I'm looking forward to that.
