This week has been taken up primarily with interviews for the Assembly Hall Marketing Internship. After the initial phone interviews, we were able to weed out half of our applicants, leaving us with only six. These six were scheduled to come in for a face to face interview here at the office. To my astonishment, I have been able to part-take in these interviews. We go around in a circle and each ask the applicant various questions.
The first one I was able to sit in on was junior majoring in marketing with a minor in spanish. Although he was very well mannered, he was a bit awkward, and a few other factors in the interview made us decide he isn't the best canidate. For example, when we asked him how he will assist in ticket sales, he replied "I plan to work for the greater good and help everyone get along". Needless to say, cliche responses like these will quickly take you out of the running. The second interview I sat in on was much better. She was a sophmore majoring in advertising. This applicant was fluid with her answers polite, and all around personable. She even has experience with entertainment marketing through her previous internship at the Canopy Club.
This is by far the most fun I have had yet. Not only is it interesting being on the other side of the interview, but it also helped me to realize what I should and shouldn't do during an interview. I was sure to thank Jenny for allowing me to participate in this.
Some of the questions include:
What are two positive things your last employer would say abot you?
Take us through your process of creating an Ad plan for a show.
What kind of experience do you have with social networking? (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
