Snow Day Construction
Tom had e-mailed me Monday giving me an option of coming on Wednesday to either the final dress rehearsal for February Dance, or hload-in (moving set pieces from the scene shop to the stage and assembling them) for Man of La Mancha in the festival theatre during the afternoon. With the weather being so poor, I decided to get my hours in early. When I arrived, all of the pieces had been moved in and there was a crew working on assembly with Tom surveying. The set has huge towers, a drawbridge, a pond, and various arches. I helped attach wooden posts to the top level and helped move in the stairways. We took a break and and two of the students I worked with had to attend a fire inspection for African Company Presents: Richard III. Most people don't think "fire inspection" when they hear theatre, but fire inspections are an important part of production. There can be a lot of hazards due to the large amounts of lighting and cables combined with, commonly wooden, sets. We finished our break, and then it was time to call it a day. We picked up hardware, returned tools, and swept the entire saw dust covered stage.
