Vocab: Terminated- related to work, a.k.a FIRED!, "order to show cause"- ruling or command made by a competent administrative authority (Judge needs to review whatever claim is being made), Petitioner- the person who sends an application for a court order or for some judicial action
During the mini-vacation we got because of the snow-storm, I did not go to my internship on Tuesday or Wednesday. It turns out that the entire office worked from home on Wednesday as well! When I came in on Thursday my sponsor had several projects in mind for me. The first turned out to be a pretty quick task that just required me to find a folder in a huge overflowing box of flies for one case (D). Out of luck, I found the file that she described to me after searching for only a few minutes! I was nervous that I had picked out the wrong file, but then extremely happy that my sponsor assured me that it was the correct file (F).
My next task is a project that my sponsor said might take me up to a week to complete! This was unsual for me because I'm use to being able to complete my tasks in no more than a couple hours. The project was to take a certain case and make a timeline of the complaints that our client had filed as well as the defendant's side of the story. This seemed like a pretty straight forward task, until I realized that half of the complaints made had no date on them! I had to read through the client's complaints, my sponsor's notes, and the defendants files to figure out where each event fell in time (D). Today I got through organizing about half of these notes and files into my own notes to better understand where each event fell. There are still several complaints that were made with absolutely no date and no reference to when the harassment occured. I felt a little panicked because I want to do an excellent job with this project, yet I have almost no reference to any dates to create my time chart (F). I decided to consult with my sponsor of a way to work around this problem and we decided I would make a separate section for harassments that our client claimed but did not specify the date (D).
When I was first given this project I felt scared that I would not be able to accomplish it to my sponsor's standards (F). After I spent several hours studying the notes and becoming more comfortable with the case I realized that this project is not out of my league and will be a very good experience for me (A). I am happy that my sponsor feels that I have enough responsibility to complete this task to her standards (F). Overall, this project makes me feel like I'm a good contribution to the law office and I know that as I continue my career in the future my skill level will be already somewhat developed after this internship (A).
