I began this day with an interesting assignment Jenny gave me. Coming to assembly hall on Tuesday, March 29th is a family oriented Broadway Musical called CATS. After I got the basic marketing initiatives out of the way (facebook page linking, event calendar posting etc.), Jenny told me to find other ways I can market the show more strongly based on its target audience, families. I was extremely enthused by this prospect because it was one of the first that allows my own creativity. I first came to the conclusion that no one loves organizing family get-togethers more than mothers, therefore I did my best to find every available mom blogs online and post advertisements for the show (a bit intrusive, but marketing can be that way). I then found an Illinois Musicians blog and posted information about CATS on that too. I can always learn from an assigment like this because I teach myself all of the options in advertising. Hopefully these extra efforts will sell more tickets.
Further promotion of CATS was cut short at around 2:15 for quite informative staff meeting. All of the interns were present (Adam, Anne, Anna), along with the marketing directors (Jenny, Sue). The meeting consisted of information and work that must be done to make the Assembly Hall Home and Garden Show run smoothely. The Home and Garden Show is a family activity day in which kids and parents will learn about nature, gardening, and home improvement through fun arts and crafts activities. We were told to come up with some fun activities we can do with the children that involve nature, housekeeping, and art. Although I feel it isn't relevant to marketing, I am confident I can utilize my abilities I obtained as a camp counselor to implement some inventive craft ideas. In the end we learned it all must be finished by spring break. A time crunch such as this will certainly help my time management skills.
