Surgery
April 5, 2011 Vocab: Endotracheal tube- inserted into the trachea in order for the primary purpose of establishing and maintaining a patent airway I have seen many surgeries this week but the most memorable one was on a malibu (husky like dog) with very thick long hair. The anesthisiologists quickly inserted a endotracheal tube and started to work on the catheter and shaving. The malibu had come in with a tumor on its behind, once they had shaved that area I noticed the tumor was like a baseball size. Amazingly the owners of the dog had not noticed the dog's tumor before it was only until the veterinarian noticed that they took samples and unfortunatly turned out to be a malignant tumor. The only symptom this gentle giant had shown was that she had not urinated for two days. The surgeons had to cut it all around and remove it without damaging too much of the healthy tissue and making sure the dog did not excessively bleed (D). Although an unfortunate event, it was very exciting to see this surgery (F). I learned that even when it was a bloody scene I did not mind watching and learning from this experience, further assuring my career path is the right choice (A).
