4/7/11; Slow week

This whole week has been dragging and today was no exception [F]. The clinic has been running a bit slower than usual, only about 11 to 12 patients in the afternoon for both days Dr. Williams was in. It seems like it takes longer to get through 11 patients than it does with 16 patients. I guess everyone one works better under pressure, which gives me every reason to procrastinate (joking) [A]. Despite the recent slump in schedule, it is anticipated to start picking up next week. Of course a busier schedule always excites the whole medical staff. Dr. Williams is especially ecstatic about a recent case. He was able to sign up his first total shoulder replacement candidate (a patient with sever osteoarthritis and degeneration of bone in the shoulder) for surgery. It is nearing his board collection period and such a challenging procedure would look nice on his resume. Like any other total join replacement, a shoulder arthoplasty involves the placement of a prosthesis in place of the inflicted joint. In this case the glenoid (socket) will be replaced with a plastic cup, which will be coupled with a metal “ball” replacing the humeral head [D]. There were many other interesting cases encountered in the past 2 weeks, but I’ll save you guys all the reading because I tend to over elaborate. For now, I wish everyone the best for the remainder of this week and those upcoming.
