April 1: What a fun day!!
When I got to the office on Monday, I had to meet with Libby for our weekly meeting. I showed her the final product on the website and a list of event for the radio. She was impressed with the result. She gave me a new project which is to make phone call to restaurants and attractions or businesses about the Wooden Nickel Program, with a goal to get the businesses to reduce their fees for the marathon weekend until May 4. We called one place together and I was supprised to hear how rude the man was on the phone. But it was an happy ending, he accepted our offer. Sad news: The office has lost another member. It is now quiet since she is not here :( The new people do not make funny jockes which sucks. But Today was a relax and fun day. I did not have much to do. Since every other Fridy, Libby, Cory, Kip, and I usually go out to drop off visitors guide books, this week we were not able to do so. Instead we had Jayne, Delre, and Angela come with us to the I.D.E. A. store, which is a store that re-use recycled objects to make something creative out of it. When we got there, the lady that helped us, showed us some of their product. She showed us a purse made out of plastic shopping bags, a shower curtain made out from a cardboard, paper made out of jeans, jacket made out of plastic bags, and more. I was shocked to see that it is possible to do a variety of things with recycled objects and happy that now I found a place where I can give away all of my old greeting cards instead of throwing them away. We were able to take a tour of the place. There was everything in there, from paper to woods, every shape possible. The fun part of the day was when I had to make something. The lady showed were she wanted us to seat, then she showed us some of the boxes that she and other kids made. Then she gave us each a stack of paper and she showed us how to make boxes that can be used as a gift wraping. She took a long time to explain it, then I was happy that she was done and I was able to do whatever I wanted. I felt like a kid in a candy store. I had every color and shapes of paper available to me. One more time, it was hard to make a choice. Since I was not paying attention to her while she was talking, I messed up on my first try then she had to explain it again to me. From then on, I was able to do it on my own. I made more than five boxes. It took us longer than we imagined. We were supposed to go back to the office at 4pm but we went back an hour later. When going back to the office, I felt bad since no one wanted to ride with Jayne (CEO), everyone else rode in one car. There was barely no space but we managed to fit. It was an interesting day. This day thought me that it is important to look outside the box and no only pay attention to what you might think is interesting. The bigger message of the day is that no one likes to ride in the same car or become close friends with their boss.
