As my second week comes to a close, I definitely feel much more productive than I did last week (which only consisted of one day at my placement site) [F]. Because I have a pharmacy technician license I am able to do things in the pharmacy that otherwise I most likely would not have been able to do. So yesterday and today I was able to fill prescriptions. Filling a prescription consists of finding the needed drugs off the shelves, calculating and counting the right amounts, labeling the bottles, and then passing them onto the pharmacist [D]. While this may seem like busy-work for some people, I actually enjoy doing this work. I've gotten pretty efficient at this already. It makes me feel appreciated especially when a pharmacist actually comes to me and asks me to quickly fill a prescription for him. I was also happy that my sponser offered to give me a job reference when I told her that I was interested in a summer job either at the hospital pharmacy or another place [F].
Another thing that I have been learning is how to run the register. It seems pretty straightforward, but it turns out you can run into complications in many areas. Already, I've seen technical problems, insurance issues, and of course, you always need to be polite to the customers, even if you are frustrated [D].
Even though I have only been at my site for 3 days, I can tell that I won't be bored during this internship because there is always work that can be done somewhere in the pharmacy [A].
