1-18-2011

A day before it's due, but yes I am thee largest procrastinator.
New Vocab: transcribe-listening or watching audio then typing out the dialogue word for word. blog-record thoughts, feelings, or info to be viewed again. sliders-the "sliding" knobs for controlling volume or wave length on a radio dashboard.

After the first days at my internship I feel I have already gained a lot of knowledge. In the first few days I was really nervous and didn't know what to expect [f]. The day before I was supposed to go I laid out my outfit the night before and packed a bag to take-complete with leather binder and notepad, my internship binder, and plenty of pens, pencils, and highlighters. I just didn't want to be unprepared for anything. Kimberlie is my sponsor and she's really nice. I'm also working closely with a man named Henry who works on the same projects as Kimberlie. After basketball is finished I'll start working with Sonie, another student who's been involved with the Youth Media Workshop.

My first day was especially mind-boggling. I was thrown into the environment immediately and Kimberlie and I were running from meetings to her office, I was being taught lingo left and right. At one of the meetings we all meet to discuss the new WILL website layout. It was a friendly environment where no idea was said to be wrong or stupid, and several times I felt I could've added my own opinions but I didn't know how everyone else would feel about an 18 year old high school senior with no experience in technology, web design, or anything related haha [a]. After a while I soon got REALLY tired and had to force myself to not nod in the meeting. I need to work on that 2:00 crash...

The second full week my sponsor Kimberlie was gone on conferences but luckily Henry was still there. He's really nice and welcoming and we always have casual chats-I found out he's a championship juggler. All last week I was transcribing an interview conducted by Sonie. I would listen to a disc of the interview and have to type in a word document all that was said in a specific format [d]. While others (even in the office) claim they hate this part of the job I think it's really fun, and hopefully I won't get tired of it! This first interview, when I finished at home yesterday, totaled to SEVENTEEN pages of typed material. All really interesting!

This week I'll be transcribing more since there's three more interviews to be done. Right now I'm working on Mayor Schweighart.
