Journal for 1/12/11

New Vocab: "The Pit"- the law office's storage place, "SNT" - Special Needs Trust
Today the office was not as busy as the first day I came into work. I was able to make my personal office more comfortable for myself and I familiarized myself with the different rooms in the entire office. My sponsor and her assistant gave me several tasks to do. Her assistant gave me cards with different clients and cases' basic information on them and I had to file them in a seperate part of the office (D). When I was done with that my sponsor showed an enormous stack of papers for a particular cases that she needed organized into different folders and in those folders she wanted them in chronological order (D). I felt that I would be able to accomplish this task in no more than an hour, but it actually took me three days (F). Although many people find filing boring and time consuming, I didn't mind because I was able to understand what real case documents will look like. My sponsor also needed to visit the company's storage warehouse today. This is where they store every case that they have closed, because they must keep documents of even closed cases for ten years (D). I was excited to go with my sponsor because I want to see any new place that has to do with the law office (F). Yet, the storage place was freezing which made it even more difficult to find a file that was from about six years ago (D). Although it was not very enjoyable, I know that it is important for me to get experience with any little thing that has to do with a law office because it will only benefit me in the future (A). Once we got back to the office I continued my filing because I was determined to finish quickly for my sponsor (but that didn't really happen). Before I left my sponsor gave me several documents that she needed to be turned into the Sherriff's Office. I had never been to this office and I was going alone which made me nervous (F). Once I got to the office the lady working at the desk was very humorous and helpful and the task was very simple for me to do. I was glad my sponsor made me go alone because it pushed me to be independent and forced me to rely on myself to get the task done correctly (A). Overall, today was a very productive day.
