Wow, I can't believe it's Thursday already and the week is almost over! Today, I got to sit in at a meeting that my sponsor,Wade Franklin (some of you may know him as Mrs.Franklin's husband), was asked to talk at. This was a short meeting that got over around 12:30 and after we went back into the office. This is when I started on a major project that I will be doing this semester. To start out this project I had to call a few places and get quotes on T.V's, sounds simple but sometimes, it has to be more difficult then it seems. All was going well until I called Best Buy and the guy I talked to, Bill, completely confused me. When I talked to Wade about it he told me to call back and ask for the electronics manager, once again, should be simple. Well, not when Bill decides to answer the phone again! When he recognized it was me, he told me he ran the information he gave me through with the manager and he'd tell me the same thing, not knowing really what to say to that I said thanks and hung up. Needless to say, Wade knew exactly what happened as I walked into his office laughing. I had to wait while some of the places called me back, so to occupy my time I worked on the website. Wednesday I went through the Lincoln Square website and found some type-o's and errors and e-mailed the guy in charge what I had found. There were also a couple more businesses that needed descriptions, so while I was waiting for people to call me back, I worked on getting some information put together for those descriptions. Today was a typical day in the office, we had a meeting got somethings done, and I learned a little bit more.
Today was a good learning experience for dealing with other businesses. As I called backed to talk to the manager just to clarify some things, Bill took it wrong. Instead of telling him what I needed I should have just continued to ask for the manager and I probably would have walked away from the phone call a little more successful. Another good thing I've realized, not just today but through out the whole week, is that the unexpected will ALWAYS happen. Whether it's plans not going exactly how you wanted them too, or if it's finding a thermostat you thought someone had stolen a year earlier, something will always happen that you never would have thought would happen. I've had a great first week. I've learned a lot about Lincoln Square mall and business in general and I can't wait to see what the next 4 months will bring!
